Karen Mueller, PT, DPT, PhD , is Professor of Physical Therapy at Northern Arizona University where she has served since 1987. She received her BS in physical therapy from University of Missouri in 1979, her Master’s degree in physical therapy from Northwestern University in 1987 and her PhD in Health Professions Education/Health Promotion from Union Institute and University in 2002. More recently, Karen was a proud 2012 graduate of the University of Montana T-DPT program. She designed the professional development seminar at Northern Arizona University in 2000 and in 2004, collaborated with Dr. Steve Tepper to bring this course to the Rehab Essentials T-DPT curriculum. Karen teaches, publishes and presents in the areas of neurologic rehabilitation, communication, professionalism and end of life care. She is the author of Communication from the inside out: Strategies for the engaged professional (FA Davis, 2010) and served on the APTA professionalism task force. Karen is currently chair of the APTA Oncology Section Hospice and Palliative Care SIG and is also a Wellcoaches/ACSM certified wellness coach.
